Growing up in a hostel away from home and loved ones was a lonely experience for me. But music, especially Kishore Kumar’s songs, was always there to comfort me. Listening to the radio on Vividh Bharti was a daily routine in our hostel, and I would eagerly wait for my favourite songs to play.
One day, while listening to the radio, “Pyaar deewana hota hai” by Kishore Kumar caught my attention. The melody, the lyrics, and Kishore da’s voice had me hooked. From that day on, I eagerly waited for Kishore Kumar’s songs to play on the radio, and I realized that he was my favourite singer.
However, the radio was not always reliable. Sometimes, the songs I wanted to listen to would not be played, and sometimes the radio signal would be too weak to catch anything. This is when I discovered the power of the internet.
With the advent of the internet, I had the freedom to search and download Kishore Kumar’s songs. It was an amazing journey of getting to know him better. I discovered so many of his hits that I had never heard before.
Years later, during my IIT JEE preparation in Delhi, I was feeling anxious and nervous. But then something unexpected happened. My favourite math teacher, Manish Bagri sir, noticed a few lines of Kishore Kumar’s song that I had written down in my math notebook. He started humming the tune and we ended up talking about Kishore Kumar’s music for a while.
From that day on, Manish Bagri sir started treating me like his own child. He believed in me and saw my potential. His kindness and support gave me the confidence I needed to pursue my dreams and achieve my goals.
Today, Kishore Kumar’s music and Manish Bagri sir’s mentorship continue to be a source of inspiration and comfort for me. Through music, I found a connection to the world around me, and through Manish Bagri sir’s guidance, I found the confidence I needed to pursue my dreams. I am grateful for the internet that allowed me to discover my favourite singer, and for Manish Bagri sir, who saw something special in me and helped me realize my potential.
